Emil Matesic, actor and scriptwriter of the film „Torsion“

The story of the film stems from a theatre play we did a year before the film. In that play, the core motive is the spine. There is a scenographic motive around wich revolves the whole play, and that is the stylized spine. We concluded it would be convenient to make a film in which the spine has been replaced in the hospital to a man who after which operation begins to see the world differently.

The material the “new” spine is made of – smooth steel – is in complete contradiction of the real spine: it has no memory or history and is rather out of time and space. Smooth steel does not have any biological origin and one needs to invest a huge efforts to come by such materials. On the level of symbolism and methaphor, the film is a story about loss of struggle within the system, about the fact that, from cradle to grave, someone is trying to change our opinions and impose us his.

Jaksa Boric, director of the film " Torsion"

We did not have too hard of a time to adapt the play to the film, it came spontaneously. But it was hard to make the film, because it's always is. Every business is hard when done properly, but we enjoyed it. We obtained some funds, but most of all we invested our efforts. I wouldn't speak about the budget; we can only estimate the cost of the time we spent making this film. All of us who are into making films are doing it as a hobby. We live of other jobs, we work in advertising, etc. When the opportunity arises, we make a film.
