Kaveh Ghahreman, director of “River of Pain”

The Life in Iran is no Different than Life in Serbia

“River of Pain” is one of the films shot during the international camp “Interraction – Zlatibor 2007”, dealing with the subject of human and children’s rights, seen from the perspective of students and young artists from different countries worldwide. The young Iranian director is telling us about his impressions.

“This was really a big experience for me and I really fitted well in the whole team, and especially with my group that was shooting a film in Uzice. We did some research and asking around people we have met and that’s how we found out about Milica, a very talented secondary school student who is living in very difficult conditions in a refugee camp. Nevertheless, she has set the goals for her future very clearly and she refuses to bow down before all the hardship she has been facing since she left the war-torn Bosnia with her family.

Although we had a week to complete the film and another three days to edit it, which I think definitely is not enough time to work on such a story, we still managed to do it right. The most important thing each documentary strives for happened after the film was shown, because Milica was provided a computer by the city authorities and that really makes me happy.

I intend to compete with this film with some festivals in Teheran, because I think this subject is very familiar to people in my country, because life in Iran is not much different from the one in Serbia.
